Target
Marketing That Works
by Pam Jones
Do you depend on search engine placement as your only means of
promoting your website? Submitting to the search engines and directories is very
important, but shouldn't be your only means of marketing your site. This is like getting a
business license and expecting people to know you are in business. You need to market your
products and services just as you do any business offline.
There are many things you can do, but the main thing is to get your
products in front of people. Decide who your target market is and use that as your
starting point. Link to sites that focus on your target market. Find newsletters that
cater to your market and advertise in - or write articles for, these newsletters. If you
have a bed and breakfast get listed in sites that offer travel accommodations or
vacation packages. Find newsletters that provide information about travel and advertise in
them.
I am one to find the least expensive way of doing things, yet be
effective. The Internet offers a lot of free resources, which I like the best. However,
there are times when you have to spend a little bit of money for valuable resources.
My favorite resource for finding sites for any particular target
market is Copernic. Copernic is a search tool that will
search the major search engines at the same time. You will get a listing of the sites
pertaining to those keywords with the url and a brief description of the site. The options
available to you from this list are only limited by your imagination. With
search engines you pretty much lose the search when you close the window.
Copernic saves the searches so you can refer to it as often as you need
to. You can also set the Copernic Pro version to track searches on a
regular basis, and emails the results to you, so you can always have an
updated search.
There is also an extensive list of places to
find ezines at the Internet Marketing Resource Center at http://www.i-m-r-c.com/resources/news_dir.htm
The only way to make sales is to have visitors to your site.
Evaluate your current marketing strategies. If they are working for you, great. If not try
something different. Spend your time wisely and perform the tasks that will get results.
